The national snack of Indonesia. Small Southeast Asian kebabs grilled on bamboo skewers or sticks and often served with peanut sauce, tamarind sauce, or a mixture of sweet soy sauce and chili sauce. The sate originated in Indonesia (the term also means “to stab” or “skewer”). There are almost as many types of sate as there are islands in Indonesia. Satay is the Malaysian/ Singaporean spelling.
