There's a ton of bittersweet on my property. Has anyone used it for smoking and flavoring foods? Any taste impressions would be appreciated.

Never heard of it.
If it's a fruit or nut bearing tree it might work.
Try cooking just a chicken breast with some of the wood.
Since it's pretty bland you should get a decent idea of the woods flavor.
(hope it's not poisonous)
Let us know how it goes.

Pierre,
I would recommend that you do careful research before using bittersweet on food. The following link is for a cockatiel website that list the plant as dangerous to birds:
http://www.cockatiel.org/articles/plantlist.html
This one says it's fatal for cats:
http://www.geocities.com/taliskercats/plants.html
And poisonuos to dogs:

A definition of the poisonuos plant:
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bittersweet
Most of these mention a shrub or vine, I'm not sure it what's growing in your area is the same. Just be careful!!!

In my house if I can't feed the scraps from the grill to the dog I have one P.O.'d puppy on my hands!
Just based on what Bob's research produced I think I'd steer clear. There's other wood in the forrest. Why risk it?

In spite of the fact thats it's a beautiful woody vine, I don't think it'll be finding its way anywhere near my plate. Thanks for the homework, all.
