What is the best way to keep a nice flat burger from "bowing" in the middle when it cooks. I start off with a nice flat burger and by the time it is done it has contracted and has a hump in the middle.....

Welcome to the Board. A variety of techniques to solve your bulging center problem have been discussed here. A search on hamburgers should turn up the threads. When I make the patties I make an indentation in the center of both sides so the edges are thicker than the center. That usually results in nice even burgers. Enjoy!

Steven says to poke a hole in the middle with your finger.

I have had good luck making the middle of the burger thinner than the outside.

But the hole in the middle has proven to be most reliable.

johnc66 welcome to the group!

We did the hole in the middle and it works great. If your family objects to the hole in the middle, you might try filling it with cheese, bacon bits, onion, jalapeno or whatever they like best on their burgers as a treat in the center. It may make it a little more appealing.
