grate scraping tool

saw it at a store and thought for that price it was a cool tool. but then i decided to check it out.
was stuningly disappointed when i found that it doesn't work on weber grates !
i can't imagine a tool that doesn't work on one of the most popular grills around.
i guess i'm missing something which includes me not buying the tool.

What does it look like, George? Is it a problem with the spacing of the grate bars?

One thing you need to worry about is scraping too hard.

On case grates you mess up the seasoning and they need to be redone.

I like brass brush since it is mild and cleans 99% of the stuff off, heat takes care of the rest

Did you try angling the head so it is not perpendicular to the bars? It looks like the "teeth" spacing is oversized and the intent is you angle the head until the teeth fit on the bars of your particular grill. Doing it that way it looks like it should fit most any grill. That said I don't know how convenient the scraping action is when you are holding the tool at an angle to the direction you are pushing.

Good call, Jim. I have this scraper and it works fairly well when used as you describe.

From SR site under that tool-

Several ways to use: 1.)Rest the jagged edge of the cleaning tool onto grill grate and rotate slightly to find best fit. Slide back and forth to clean top side of grill. 2.)Slot in between grates and rotate to reach underside of grill. 3.)Slide back and forth to clean both sides simultaneously.

Hand wash only. Dry thoroughly.

Do not fold, spindle, or mutilate.

ok, went back and tried it the "correct" way. fits kinda sorta ok but contact with the grate is not what i'm looking for. i really wanted to buy it but passed on it.

I've had one of these for a few years, and Jim's description is right on. Mine works just fine, except for the screeching noise I get from it sometimes when I'm using it in a hurry or at the wrong angle. Sort of like fingernails on a blackboard but not as bad.
