I see the advantage of a kamado style grill for longer cooks; but does it work well for quick cooks such as burgers, dogs, etc?
Yup, they work real well on short cooks too. Especially for steaks, because another advantage is the heat they can put off (over 1,000 degrees even). You can get high-end restaurant quality sears on a steak with heat this high. However, the disadvantage is that you can't fit a bunch of food on there at once. So if you're needing to cook hamburgers and hot dogs for a large group of people, then a grill with a larger surface area would be a better option.
