I've been thinking about getting one, as I hate cleaning the brush I have now after using it.

I'm just wondering if they work well and can hold a thin sauce, or do you just end up pretty much brushing your food with wet silicone and not really get any sauce on the meat?

Great question.

I have used both and found that the silicone are the best for basting thicker sauces, however, the silicone bristles have a hard time with thin blends such as olive oil mixed with soy sauce. A regular bush works much better for this type of mix. It's good to have both types in your drawer.

I picked up a couple of the silicone brushes last summer for about $1.75 each at Wal-Mart and they work fine. It may be slightly more difficult to use them with thin sauces, but the ease of cleaning makes them worth it. I just throw them in the dishwasher and they're fine.

Sounds good to me!

At that price, I can afford to pick up a couple next time I'm at Wally World to try out.

I'm guessing I won't have much to worry about since I generally don't use a sauce as thin as olive oil and soy sauce... my thin sauces are more like apple butter with apple cider vinegar I use to glaze pork chops with and stuff like that, nothing I would think of as "pure" liquid. I was just afraid the silicone might prove to be too non-stick to hold on to something that is not as thick as BBQ sauce.

Thanks for the info everybody! Very Happy

Even if you have to use it with a thin sauce, it's no big deal to me. Just might take a couple of extra brush strokes to apply.

The silicone bristles don't hold the thin sauces as well. You'll jsut have to go cback more often. Not too much of a pain...

Sounds like less of a pain than trying to clean my current brush... it's a trade-off I can definitely live with! lol

You will not be disappointed and another plus... unlike the regular brushes the bristles are always straight and flexible and won’t fall out to stick to your food.

If any of you have a "Big Lots" discount store near you, i grabbed about a dozen silicone brushes for .99 each.

While I realize I don't NEED a dozen........they were .99!! Laughing

I love my silicone brushes. I use mine for basting hot wings with thin hotsauce without any issues.

i use this one and it works great with thick or thin sauce. i use it to baste wings with buffalo sauce and it getsa a good coat on them. might have to baste a little longer than with a thick brush, but the trade off on cleaning is well worth it. the brush is heavy duty too.
