I cooked seafood paella for a group of friends last weekend at a friend lake house.

I started with some grilled veggies and charred the tomatoes for some smoke flavor

Also grilled the chicken instead of cooking them in the Paella pan

Placed my Discada on the Weber for even heat distribution, which is needed to cook the rice.

And here is the finished product with lots of seafood

OMG!!! That looks absolutely amazing... If Griffin and Mrs. Griffin hadn't just adopted me, I would have asked you to adopt me. A paella pan is definitely on my wish list.

Now THAT is what I call a paella! Everything looks wonderful. What size pan is that, it looks like a 22 inch? How many people is that sized pan meant to feed? And since I am being so inquisitive: What is a Discada? Is it some thing like the plate setter on the BGE, which turns the Egg into an indirect/convection oven?

Gotta concur with the previous posts - great job, Z!

Although it must be tough for you to cook on such a small grill...

Thank you all :)
It’s always fun to cook Paella. It really makes any party or get together much more festive :)

Jim,
A Discada is sometimes called Cowboy Wok or Mexican wok. Most of them are made from a retired plow discs and used as a griddle or wok for Mexican or Southwestern dishes.
Mine is 24” and got it from this site

Here are a couple of pictures of it

It’s heavy and retains heat like cast iron also seasoned the same way. It has a concave shape like a wok and not as flat as Paella pan, but it works just as well. I fed about 25 people that day and had a lot of leftovers. I could’ve easily added more rice and fed more people.

Brad,
My first grill was a Weber Kettle and I still own a couple of them and will always have place for it in my toolbox. It always amazes me how much food you could cook on a Kettle with very little charcoal.

Dyal and Griffin,
We’re all one family here and would be glad to share my food with all of you :)
