Hey guys...

I'm so excited because I just ordered a Weber Performer charcoal grill! The lame bit is I have to wait 2 weeks to get it. Oh well, gotta be patient. 8)

Anyway, the grill comes with a triple-nickel plated hinged cooking grate. What I was wondering about was, is this just as good a surface as cast iron or porcelain coated cast iron?? Can you get a cast iron grate for this kind of barbeque? Should I care? How does a triple-nickel surface compare for doing steaks, pork, and burgers?

Thanks guys,

Trevor

Weber discontinued the cast iron grate for the kettle.

Good news is that Lodge Mfg. makes a cast iron grate that you just plop down on top of the stock grate.

Yeah, but what I want to know is...

Is the grate that comes with the weber perfectly fine, or is it worth the effort to try and get a cast iron grate for this (Performer) grill?

Thanks,

Trevor

The regular grate is just fine.

Steven uses the stock grate on his kettles.

Wear the one it comes with out first, the upgrade to the cast iron. No reason to throw out a perfectly good grate.
