Best Barbecue in Texas

In between Houston and San Antonio in a little town called Flatonia (which is also the home of the annual Czhilispiel every October) is a place called Joel's Barbecue. It is a small log cabin style restaurant with about 6 tables inside and couple on the outside. They have great barbecue and beef jerky. Every trip I make to San Antonio I stop either on the way there or back. It was love at first bite.

You have got to take the five minute detour to City Market in Luling. It is one of the top three BBQ places in the state along with Black's and Smitty's in Lockhart. Brisket, sausage and ribs are outsanding!!!

bonnie, i totally agree...i stopped there by sheer coincidence(i nearly ran out of gas) as i was driving across the country, and it was one of the best surprises i've ever had, food-wise.. i brought some of their jalapeno-smoked bacon back in the cooler with me...quite a good pit stop for the long drive across texas
