These are the two best BBQ joints in town IMO.
Whistlin' Dixie Steaks & Southern Buffet
3502 Slide Rd. Ste. A-27 or
8222 University Ave. (Southern Buffet )
County Line Smokehouse and grill
www.countylinelubbock.com (great website )
Both Whistlin' Dixie's are great but I particularly like the new one on South University that has the Southern Buffet. Both establishments offer 11 different smoked meats (Pulled pig, brisket, sausage, burnt ends, riblets, honey ham, smoked chicken, peppered turkey breast, beef ribs, babyback pork ribs, and bratwurst), 5 veggie choices, and 3 different sauces. . But the Southern Buffet also offers catfish and chicken fried steak as well as a salad bar.
County Line has a location specifically for Take-out, where you can order a whole brisket if needed. But if you have the time you must check out their main location. I copied this from their homepage:
Nestled in the Escondido Canyon, just 5 miles from downtown Lubbock, County Line Smokehouse & Grill restaurant is surrounded by 100-year old elm trees, green meadows with water fountains and running water coming off the fork of the Brazos River. The split rail fencing and the flock of brilliantly plumed peacocks, geese and ducks enhance your way to the adobe-style roadhouse, with heavy wooden beams and arched doorways.
Our Texas style hospitality is complimented with our mouth-watering pit smoked barbeque brisket, beef and pork ribs, tender chicken and peppered turkey. Our grilled steaks and baked potato are truly a Texas size serving. The County Line specializes in salads, breads, vegetables, potatoes, sauces, and desserts -- not to mention our homemade vanilla bean ice cream and cobblers.
This place is truly an experience.
So if you ever find yourself in Lubbock, Texas............
