New favorite in NYC

As you can tell from my previous post, I am a huge Blue Smoke fan. However, I believe I found a place that tops Blue Smoke (Please don't hurt me).

It's Hill Country, it's on 26th between Broadway and 6th (http://www.hillcountryny.com/) and the food is very authentic. Sold by the pound, gets very pricey, but worth every penny in my opinion.

The brisket is really unbelievable, the ribs simply fantastic, and the ambiance is really fun.

It's semi self serve, so it's not as "upscale" as Blue Smoke, which I still like a lot.

Gonna be in the theater district , any thoughts on Virgil's or Brother Jimmy's ?

both Virgil's and Jimmy's are OK - but neither are in the same class as Blue Smoke or Hill Country. I find both a bit too "industrial" - and not as authentic.

But for a quick fix in the Theater District - both would do the trick for me.

Is "Dallas BBQ" still in the area? I believe they were at 241 W. 42nd Street. I thought they were pretty good, but not great. It has been a couple years since I was there. I had their "Carolina Pork BBQ Sandwich" which didn't resemble "Carolina" pork at all, but was okay in its own right. The Q was very moist and fairly mushy, with lots of red sauce mixed into the meat.

Dallas BBQ is all over the city, and there is a location on 42nd Street.
However, I never thought of them as "real" BBQ... maybe I am a purist, but their food seems truly industrial. (When I say Industrial, I mean - not really pit smoked, probably shipped in and re-heated, no real pit master, etc.)

Dallas BBQ is not BBQ. I'm not sure what it is, but it ain't BBQ as this forum would recognize.

I tried Blue Smoke a couple times but liked Rub (Righteous Urban barbque) much better!
