In Northern VA, try Bubba's BBQ.

Williamsburg, try Pierce's Pit BBQ, ate there a few weeks ago for the first time, great BBQ, great value, interesting sauce.

Inbetween Richmond and VA Beach, try Cowlings located in Waverly off of route 460, authentic pit cooked BBQ.

Late response, I know, but if you're around Glen Allen, you've got a few choices.

One is heading to Ashland and trying out Virginia BBQ company at 600 England Street. (Ignore the Smokey Pig as you drive by, it hasn't been edible bbq in a decade)... Another is Phat Boyz located at 10185 Washington Highway (right beside Greentop Sporting Goods). Pretty good cue, done on propane pits with Oak wood.
