Perhaps you’ve wondered how Steven, who’s based in Miami and Massachusetts, has an assistant who lives in Cleveland and California. Well, we’re all on the road so much anyway, we’ve decided to become a virtual company. But Steven had such a long list of goals for 2007 that it seemed daunting to communicate them via e-mail or conference calling. So he and Barbara invited Nancy Loseke to Miami recently for a two-day annual meeting. (Nancy questioned the timing: Who would want to leave northern Ohio to go to Miami in January? But she immediately booked her flight. And suggested that future annual meetings also be scheduled in January.) Not even dinner at Michy’s, a new Miami hotspot, interrupted discussion or note-taking on the paper tablecloth (see Steven’s pencil?) on subjects as diverse as Steven’s new tools (including a grill oiler), fuels (olive wood), flavors (including our first ever steak sauce), podcasts, Steven’s research and travel schedule for Planet Barbecue, a grill in development, and many other topics. Hold on to your seats, folks. It’s going to be an exciting year.
